The very beautiful Place de la Concorde is located in the heart of Paris at the entrance of the Tuileries Gardens. It was built in front of the original Tuileries castle (which burned during the revolution) and sits at the very beginning of one of the most famous streets in Paris, The Champs Elysées.

Place de la Concorde was built in 1755 (Architect: Ange-Jacques Gabriel) and redesigned between 1836 and 1846 by the architect Jacques-Ignace Hittorf.

Place de la Concorde is famous for the Luxor Obelisk, a 3300 year old Egyptian obelisk that was brought to Paris from Egypt in 1833 by king Louis Philippe. The obelisk was 3000 years old when Place de la Concorde was built and there remains another one like it in Luxor.

Located in the heart of Paris, Place de la Concorde is surrounded by several prestigious hotels and two monumental fountains (Fontaine des Mers and Fontaine des Fleuves). The site is infamous for having been the place where Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette (among others) were guillotined during the French Revolution.
